Here is some background info on Steve
Where are you from?
I grew up in Lexington, MA, and have lived in the area for most of my life.
How long have you been a member at steel fox and why did you join?
I started doing CrossFit at another out of state location in September 2017, but only joined Steel Fox in December 2017 upon moving back to MA. In total I have been doing CrossFit for 7 months. I joined because I wanted to make a healthier change to my lifestyle and to get into better overall shape, and I also wanted to add a workout routine to my everyday life that would be both challenging and enjoyable at the same time. Steel Fox was an obvious choice for me since it is conveniently located close to work and home, but after doing an initial one week trial here I knew that it would be a great fit for my fitness needs and desires as well.
What classes do you usually attend?
I typically attend either noon or 5:30pm classes. I generally find myself feeling more energetic earlier on in the day, so I have been attending noon classes more often lately.
What do you like to do outside of steel fox?
I really enjoy being active and outdoors in general. Some of my favorite outdoor activities include cycling, hiking/backpacking, and skiing.
What is something we might not know about you?
When I was younger I swam competitively for many years up until college so I love to compete, especially against myself. As a swimmer, I would spend countless hours of time swimming laps in practice just to shave off mere seconds of time at swim meets in my events. CrossFit is sort of the same mentality - I'd spend many workouts practicing movements such as back squats and power cleans just to increase my 1 RM by a few pounds. But the satisfaction of getting a PR at the end of the day makes all the time and effort worthwhile!
What is your favorite crossfit movement?
Handstand Push-ups. I used to be afraid of getting upside-down at all, but once I overcame that the HSPU's actually became pretty enjoyable!
What is your greatest accomplishment?
Recently I hit my personal weight loss goal that I set for myself since I started CrossFit last year. I never would have imagined that I'd be able to achieve this goal so quickly, but it is certainly a great feeling!
What is one long term goal and one short term goal?
My long term goal is to continue improving myself by getting stronger and hopefully be able to do more WODs at the Rx level. One of my short term goals is to get either a ring or a bar muscle-up. Hopefully one of them will come sooner or later.
What motivates and inspires you?
The sense of accomplishment after finishing a challenging task is what really motivates and inspires me. Whether it is at the gym, workplace, or even just various challenges in everyday life, being able to finally achieve something that I know I worked hard towards and seeing the inevitable results that follow keep me motivated to continue on for more.
